At-home test kit Best for: Best overall at-home kit

LetsGetChecked review

4.3/5 · 4.4/5 on Trustpilot (18,800 reviews)

LetsGetChecked is the most-reviewed at-home STI brand in the U.S. — you order a kit online, self-collect a urine and/or finger-prick sample at home, mail it back prepaid, and view results online in 2–5 days. What sets it apart: it owns and runs its own CAP-accredited labs (rather than routing to Quest or Labcorp), a nurse calls you the same day for a positive, and in about 40 states it can prescribe treatment. It's our top all-round at-home pick — here's our full review.

Our verdict

Is LetsGetChecked worth it?

LetsGetChecked is our best overall at-home pick. It's vertically integrated — samples run through its own CLIA-certified, CAP-accredited lab (Priva Path Labs in Monrovia, CA) rather than a third party — so quality control is tight, and it's the only at-home service we tested that screens for both HSV-1 and HSV-2. With ~18,800 Trustpilot reviews at about 4.4/5 it's also the most-reviewed brand in the category, and a nurse calls you the same day on a positive. Two honest caveats: its Better Business Bureau grade is poor (it's slow to answer formal complaints), and reviewers consistently find the finger-prick collection fiddly. The positive-result consult is also a $39 add-on, not free as it is at some rivals. For most people testing at home, it's still the one to beat.

The full review

LetsGetChecked in depth

Our hands-on take on what LetsGetChecked gets right, where it falls short, and how it stacks up.

Owning the lab is what sets it apart

Most at-home brands route your sample to Quest or Labcorp; LetsGetChecked runs its own CLIA-certified, CAP-accredited lab using the same NAAT/PCR assays clinics use. That vertical integration tightens quality control, and it shows up in support too — a nurse calls you the same day on a positive, and in roughly 40 states the service can prescribe treatment. With ~18,800 Trustpilot reviews at about 4.4/5, it's the most-reviewed brand in the category, and the only at-home kit we found that screens both HSV-1 and HSV-2.

The caveats: BBB grade, finger-pricks and a paid consult

Three things keep this short of perfect. Its Better Business Bureau grade is poor — it's slow to answer formal complaints — and reviewers consistently find the finger-prick blood collection fiddly, sometimes needing several pricks. The positive-result consult is a $39 add-on, where rivals like myLAB Box include it free. Note too that HIV isn't in the Standard 5 or Complete 8 panels (it's a separate add-on), and Complete 8 is unavailable in New York.

Who should pick it (and who shouldn't)

It's the one to beat if you want a trusted, heavily-reviewed at-home kit with real nurse follow-up, especially if you specifically want both herpes strains tested. If you need the widest possible panel or oral/rectal site testing, see our LetsGetChecked vs myLAB Box comparison. If shelf availability and cheap single tests matter more, Everlywell is the cheaper, more convenient route.

How it scores

LetsGetChecked rated by category

We score every service on the things that actually matter, then weight them into one overall rating.

4.3

Overall · out of 5

Accuracy

4.7/5

Owns its CLIA-certified, CAP-accredited lab; NAAT/PCR assays, same standard as a clinic.

Panel breadth

4.4/5

Simple 2 up to Complete 8 (adds Mgen, Ureaplasma, Gardnerella); only at-home kit testing both HSV-1 and HSV-2.

Support

4.5/5

Same-day nurse call on positives and prescriptions in ~40 states — genuinely useful.

Privacy

4.5/5

Discreet unmarked packaging, results under a code not your name, HITRUST-certified systems.

Speed

4.0/5

Results 2–5 days after the lab receives your sample; slower end-to-end than a walk-in lab.

Value & service

3.6/5

Fair pricing and free two-way shipping, but the $39 positive consult is extra and its BBB complaint-handling is weak.

Is it right for you?

Who LetsGetChecked is — and isn't — for

Choose LetsGetChecked if…

  • You specifically want both HSV-1 and HSV-2 herpes testing

  • You're squeamish about a finger-prick — reviewers find it fiddly
  • You live in New York (Complete 8 is restricted) or RI/NJ/AK (shipping limits)
  • You want insurance billing — it's self-pay (HSA/FSA only)

Good to Know

LetsGetChecked review FAQs

Common questions about LetsGetChecked — cost, accuracy, results and how it works.

Is LetsGetChecked legit and accurate?

Yes. LetsGetChecked runs samples through its own CLIA-certified, CAP-accredited lab using the same NAAT/PCR assays clinics use, so accuracy is high when you test within the right window. It's the most-reviewed at-home brand, holding about 4.4/5 across ~18,800 Trustpilot reviews — though its Better Business Bureau complaint-handling is weak.

How much does LetsGetChecked cost?

Simple 2 (chlamydia + gonorrhea) is $99, Standard 5 is $149, and the Complete 8 panel is $249. Add-ons like the herpes test ($119) are separate. It's self-pay (HSA/FSA accepted), and subscribing cuts 15–30%. A positive-result consult is an extra $39.

How long do LetsGetChecked results take?

Most results post online 2–5 days after the lab receives your mailed sample. Add the shipping time for the kit to reach you, so it's slower end-to-end than walking into a lab the same day.

Can LetsGetChecked prescribe treatment?

Often, yes. A nurse calls you the same day for a positive result, and in roughly 40 states the service can prescribe treatment for several common infections after a $39 virtual consult. Medication is billed separately.

Does LetsGetChecked test for herpes?

Yes — it's the only at-home service we reviewed that screens for both HSV-1 and HSV-2, via a separate $119 finger-prick antibody test. Antibody testing isn't generally recommended for people without symptoms, so read the guidance before ordering.

Does LetsGetChecked take insurance?

No — it's self-pay only, which keeps testing private. HSA and FSA cards are accepted at checkout, and you can request an itemized receipt.
