Labcorp review

4.1/5 · 1.6/5 on Trustpilot (480 reviews)

Labcorp is the other national reference lab behind much of the testing industry. Labcorp OnDemand lets you order STD tests yourself — no appointment — and either visit one of 2,000+ Labcorp centers or, for some tests, collect at home. It's the rare big lab that does both in-person and at-home, including a 30-minute rapid PCR kit and a $39 over-the-counter syphilis test. Accurate and flexible, with a corporate edge and the same 2019 breach history as Quest. Here's our full review.

Our verdict

Is Labcorp worth it?

Labcorp is the other national lab the industry runs on, and Labcorp OnDemand is its consumer face. It's the most flexible big-lab option: order with no appointment, then either visit one of 2,000+ centers (plus 400+ inside Walgreens) for a full panel, or use an at-home kit — including a 30-minute Visby rapid PCR and a $39 over-the-counter 'First To Know' syphilis test. An independent physician authorizes orders, results post in 1–4 days, and positives get a free consult (no prescription). OnDemand often runs a little cheaper than QuestDirect on expanded panels. The honest caveats mirror Quest's: the corporate brand's review scores are poor (billing/wait-time driven), and the 2019 AMCA vendor breach exposed data on ~7.7 million Labcorp patients.

Labcorp in depth

Our hands-on take on what Labcorp gets right, where it falls short, and how it stacks up.

The big lab that does both in-person and at-home

What sets Labcorp OnDemand apart from the other national lab is breadth of format. Most big labs make you come in; Labcorp will run a full in-person panel at one of 2,000+ centers (plus 400+ inside Walgreens) or ship you an at-home kit. That includes a 30-minute Visby rapid PCR for chlamydia, gonorrhea and trichomoniasis and a $39 over-the-counter 'First To Know' rapid syphilis test you read yourself. As a national reference lab, the underlying accuracy is clinical-grade either way.

Where the price and the consult fall short

The at-home kits are the cheap entry point, but in-person panels can sting: the Complete STI test lists at $489 and the 8-infection Custom STI at $638, discounted mainly during sales. Consults explain a positive for free but don't prescribe — only the Visby PCR kit bundles treating telehealth. And Labcorp doesn't operate in Hawaii, Maine or North Dakota. If you're weighing the two giants, our Quest vs Labcorp comparison is the head-to-head; for a wider mail-in panel, myLAB Box screens up to 14 infections.

Is it right for you?

Who Labcorp is — and isn't — for

Choose Labcorp if…

  • You want to choose between an in-person panel and an at-home kit
  • You want a cheap, fast rapid test (the $39 OTC syphilis kit or 30-min PCR)
  • You'd rather order direct from a national lab than a reseller
  • You have a Labcorp or Walgreens location nearby
  • You want self-pay testing kept off your insurance record

Look elsewhere if…

  • You want a prescription on the spot — OnDemand consults don't treat
  • You want a single STD-focused storefront over a corporate portal
  • You live in HI, ME or ND (Labcorp doesn't operate there)
  • You want the cheapest full panel — specialist resellers can match or beat it

The honest take

Labcorp pros & cons

Pros

  • Does both: in-person panels at 2,000+ centers AND at-home kits
  • At-home options include a 30-min Visby rapid PCR and a $39 OTC syphilis test
  • No appointment — an independent physician authorizes your order
  • Free provider consult on a positive result (interpretation, not treatment)
  • Often a little cheaper than QuestDirect on expanded panels; HSA/FSA accepted
  • Self-pay keeps results off your insurance record

Cons

  • OnDemand consults explain results but don't prescribe treatment
  • Corporate brand's overall review scores are poor (billing/wait-time complaints)
  • Not available in Hawaii, Maine or North Dakota
  • Full in-person panels can be pricey (Complete STI list price is high outside of sales)
  • 2019 AMCA billing-vendor breach exposed data on ~7.7 million Labcorp patients

Good to Know

Labcorp review FAQs

Common questions about Labcorp — cost, accuracy, results and how it works.

What is Labcorp OnDemand?

Labcorp OnDemand is Labcorp's consumer service: you order STD tests yourself online (an independent physician authorizes the order) and either visit a Labcorp center or use an at-home kit. It's self-pay, so nothing is billed to insurance. It replaced the older 'Pixel by Labcorp' consumer brand for STI testing.

Does Labcorp offer at-home STD tests?

Yes — that's a key advantage over Quest. Labcorp OnDemand sells a 30-minute Visby rapid PCR kit ($149, female) for chlamydia/gonorrhea/trichomoniasis and a $39 over-the-counter 'First To Know' rapid syphilis test you read at home, alongside its in-person panels.

How much does Labcorp STD testing cost?

In person, a single syphilis test is $59 and HIV is $99; the Complete STI panel lists at $489, though the 8-infection Custom STI panel is $638, frequently discounted in sales. At home, the rapid syphilis kit is $39 and the Visby PCR kit is $149. It's self-pay, with HSA/FSA accepted.

Does Labcorp treat positive results?

A provider will contact you free of charge to discuss a positive in-person result, but standard OnDemand consults don't include a prescription — you're directed to a treating provider. The exception is the at-home Visby rapid PCR kit, which includes free telehealth that can prescribe.

Is Labcorp OnDemand private?

Yes. OnDemand is self-pay, so results don't generate an insurance Explanation of Benefits, and they post only to your Labcorp Patient portal. Note that in 2019 a breach at billing vendor AMCA exposed data on roughly 7.7 million Labcorp patients.

How long do Labcorp results take?

In-person lab results typically post to your Labcorp Patient portal in 1–4 business days. At-home rapid kits give a result in 15–30 minutes.
